The Whistleblower — Confessions of a Homebody ArtistJanuary 2025

Hello, my lovely Subscriber First Name, Welcome to the very first Whistle & Page newsletter—where clay meets country life and creativity unfolds slowly but surely. Think of this as the written equivalent of a golden summer afternoon: warm, heartfelt, and maybe a bit messy, but always worth savouring. So, grab your favourite mug, fill it with your hot brown of choice, and let’s dive in! January has been a dance of sunshine, summer storms, and soil under my nails here in Murrumbateman. The cows and sheep behind the fence have been excellent company, grazing contentedly as I spend my mornings weeding (always weeding), baking sourdough, and dreaming about different pottery designs and how I can engineer them into being. The Hyland Hills homestead might be small, but it’s bursting with stories. Our little farmhouse is always humming with warmth and quiet joy, and I’m thrilled to share them with you.

Confessions: A New Blog for Makers and Dreamers
If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of my studio—or why I’m so passionate about taking my time with clay—you’ll love my new blog, Confessions. It’s a cosy corner of the Whistle & Page website where I chat about all things pottery, creativity, and slow living. This month, you’ll find stories about: The Importance of Slow Craft—spoiler: it’s all about the joy of the process. How to Choose the Perfect Handmade Pottery for Your Home—functional and beautiful, always. Pottery for Kids and Families—because creativity starts young. Sustainable Pottery Practices—eco-friendly clay, glaze, and good vibes.
If this sounds like your cup of tea (or perhaps your favourite handleless mug), you can dive in below.

Fire Up Fridays and Studio Days
Did someone say creative escape? My Fire Up Fridays pottery workshops are the perfect excuse to get your hands dirty and your mind clear. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a budding artisan, you’ll leave feeling energised and something uniquely yours. There’s even a family-friendly session, so you and the kids can create something together—messy hands, happy hearts. For a quieter peek into my process, come along to an Open Studio day. Held in my humble little Colorbond shed with a country setting and a view that I still gush over. It’s a casual, relaxed way to meet the maker (aka me, hi!), see the studio in action, and get a feel for the magic of handmade pottery. Reserve your spot below.

Autumn Rain is on the Horizon
As summer fades, I’m excited to unveil my newest pottery collection, Autumn Rain, launching this, well, autumn. Featuring my signature Petrichor glaze—a rich, mossy green that captures the earthy scent of rain on warm clay—this collection is all about texture, tone, and timeless design. Whistle & Page family members get early access and a few special perks, so be sure to share these newsletters with anyone who loves handmade pottery and human-made art. And don’t forget to follow me on socials for sneak peeks and updates from my Art Journal. While you’re waiting for the new collection to drop (I know, it’s like waiting for next week’s episode of Dawson’s Creek all over again!), check out how pottery found me.

If you haven’t yet discovered my first children’s book, Grateful, it’s waiting for you. This book is the first in The Blooming Hearts Collection and is a celebration of gratitude, kindness, and connection. As the days grow cooler, I’ll be diving deeper into books two and three, so stay tuned for more stories to share with your little ones. You can grab your copy of Grateful and discover below how the story came to me in the dead of the night and my plans for upcoming books.

The Hyland Hills: A Countryside Dream
Life here on The Hyland Hills feels a bit like a 90s music video—you know, the ones with sweeping fields and soft golden light (minus the wind machines; although, we do get galeforce winds out here). There are no farm animals to wrangle (yet!), but the cows and sheep over the back fence make excellent neighbours, and the kitchen garden, or the Kailyard, is where I spend most mornings. January has been filled with sourdough bakes, Nagi-inspired dinners, and battling the endless weeds in Citrus and Berry Lane. Summer storms roll in like clockwork, breaking the heat and leaving the air thick with the smell of rain on earth—my muse for the upcoming collection. Come follow our sweet journey as we fumble through it all.

When the day winds down, I water the garden as the sun dips low, casting everything in the softest light. Once the little ones are tucked in bed, I bring out my watercolour supplies to paint the small things that inspired me that day—leaves, petals, or the way the sunlight hit the fence. This month, I challenged myself to paint daily. It’s been equal parts tricky and rewarding, but it’s becoming a habit that brings joy. Follow along with my progress as I figure my way through this creative adventure.

Thank you for being here, for supporting handmade, and for making this little dream of mine feel like something bigger. There’s so much more to come this year, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Keep an eye out for the next newsletter (and maybe spread the word…pretty please?!), where I’ll be sharing updates on Autumn Rain, more stories from the homestead, and, who knows, maybe a treat or two. From my hands to your heart and home. Handmade slowly, intentionally, wholeheartedly. With love and light, Nawsheen Founder, Maker and Chief Everything Officer P.S. If you’re still humming the theme song of Dawson’s Creek after reading this, my work here is done.
